Dear Parents and Parent Advisory Councils,
Please distribute this conference information flyer via PAC websites and meetings and mass emails distribution lists.

The BC Responsible & Problem Gambling Program is hosting a free conference in the Victoria area for local parents. We are inviting 2 representatives from each school (either 2 parents or 1 parent and 1 school representative) to attend the "Gambling and our Youth – Parent Conference" on November 30, 2012 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at the Inn at Laurel Point. Also in attendance will be representatives from local parenting organizations.
The day will consist of a number of workshops geared toward age group streams (elementary, middle and secondary). Each workshop will build on the knowledge of the previous workshop, culminating in an action planning session and cross-stream sharing.
The intention of this conference is bring the issue of youth gambling to the forefront for parents and those interacting with youth. Gambling is participated in by young people more often than substance use, and youth are twice as likely to develop a problem with gambling than adults, and yet we still see little awareness about this concern.
Our services are offered free of charge around the province and include both counselling and education services. Please refer to the attached information for more details about the conference and registration information.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to connect with me via the information provided below. I look forward to seeing you in late November.
