On December 11, 2012, the Government of Canada announced that it continues to take concrete steps to improve First Nation education. A discussion guide regarding the proposed legislative approach is now available. This paper will guide intensive consultations toward the development of a proposed First Nation Education Act.

The discussion guide "Developing a First Nation Education Act" outlines the components that could be covered in elementary and secondary education legislation and accompanying regulations. It builds upon the findings of numerous engagement and research activities that have taken place to date. Their feedback has emphasized the need for education reform and a legislative framework for First Nation elementary and secondary education.

We encourage all First Nation individuals and those who have an interest in First Nation education to read the discussion guide and provide us with your feedback.

Thanks for your participation,

COPACS
